Is BI the Next Killer App for SOA

BI has its place in the enterprise however it is “black box” technology in the same sense as flight recorders on a commercial aircraft. The plane crashes, you pick up the black box, look at the data, and then redesign the plane around the identified fault. You repeat this every time there is a crash until the plane stops crashing. Obviously this is a less than optimal way to build a business!

What is needed is more akin to the instrumentation on the flight deck of a plane providing real time feedback on what is happening right now, as well as using advanced techniques to provide early warnings if any part of the aircraft (or pilots) performance is about to fail.

With modern business becoming an increasingly near real time, message based, group of services, prevention and timely intervention are more critical for retaining market share and brand credibility. This Critical Information (CI) deleieverd in near real time is actuall the next killer app for SOA.
